Sao Domingos II HydroElectric Generating Plant

JFSA evaluated construction activities at a hydroelectric project located in Brazil. The project included an earthen dam about 150 feet high. Due to an extended rainy season, the construction effort was behind schedule. The Contractor proposed an accelerated schedule so the Owner could meet a contractual deadline with the power purchaser. JFSA was asked to review the schedule, visit the site and provide a report outlining the risks associates with the rapid construction of the embankments and associated features.

JFSA was responsible for the structural design, construction management and on-site supervision of this 35 million dollar processing plant, which prepares iron ore for the manufacturing on iron pellets.

JFSA provided the structural design of a 400-mtph vertical-bucket conveyor belt. The facility included a maintenance building, pipe support, catwalks, take-off towers, platforms, and foundations.

JFSA performed the conceptual design for a three-story 270-ft by 96-ft concrete support structure in a Seismic Zone III with a wind velocity above 20 mph, and in a highly corrosive environment.

Marina at Papagayo Waste Water Treatment Plant

JFSA provided structural design for a new 59-ft by 26-ft temporary waste water treatment plant. A total of five concrete tanks were designed to withstand the maximum height water pressure. Because this structure is located in a high seismic region, the seismic forces resulting in horizontal acceleration of the fluid generating a hydrodynamic force was also incorporated into the tank design. The remaining area was designed as a concrete slab-on-grade used to support large equipment and two platforms. Although this plant was located outside of the United States, the International Building Code was utilized in the design.
