Yavapai Point Museum

National Park Service
Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Based on results from previous work assessing the potential seismic hazards of a large number of structures in the Grand Canyon National Park, this facility was selected for an in-depth evaluation and rehabilitation. JFSA provided on-site investigation, extensively measuring, inspecting, and documenting the current conditions of this historic building. Structural rehabilitation solutions and cost estimates were prepared and incorporated into the Architectural rehabilitation of the building.

Project Highlights:
  • Assessment of an unreinforced stone masonry structure located on the rim of the canyon and constructed in 1928
  • Provided on-site service to assess current condition and evaluate the anticipated seismic performance based on FEMA reports 273 and 310
  • Design horizontal and vertical rehabilitation of existing structure, including roof, walls, and foundation
  • Follow the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation

Rourke Ranch Rehabilitation

USDA Forest Service
Comanche National Grassland, Colorado

JFSA provided a structural analysis of this historic structure to assure the safety of human occupants while maintaining its original historic fabric.

Project Highlights:
  • 18th century adobe brick building with earthen roof structure supported by rough sawn log beams and planks
  • Provided rehabilitation to increase load capacity and improve connections for lateral loads

Presidio Water Treatment Plant

Golden Gate National Recreation Area, California
Comanche National Grassland, Colorado

JFSA provided structural design and construction services to rehabilitate the plant. Restoration work on the existing structures included pressure grouting the soil to prevent liquefaction, design of numerous steel frames to reinforce the existing buildings and preserve their historic integrity, and use of surface-bonded concrete to repair and strengthen existing walls. At the same time, JFSA provided a structural design to modernize the treatment process, including fiber-reinforced plastic covers to reduce odor emissions from the basins. Historic process equipment was left in place to serve as a museum of water treatment technology.

Project Highlights:
  • 2 million gallons per day
  • Historic landmark
  • Plant built on liquefiable soils in a highly seismic region
  • Plant supplied crucial drinking water to parts of the San Francisco area
  • Construction Services
