Construction Managment

US-40/Berthoud Pass East

Colorado Department of Transportation Region 1
Clear Creek County, Colorado
US-40/Berthoud Pass

JFSA provided complete EA documentation, preliminary and final design, and construction administration for the project. We provided the assistant project engineer and several inspectors and testers throughout construction. A particular benefit was derived by assigning our lead designer as the assistant project engineer for the duration of Phase 3. This afforded a unique opportunity to address design-related issues on the spot without the usual delays that can be incurred by going back to the design consultant.

This major reconstruction and widening project at the north end of Breckenridge provided JFSA field staff with numerous administrative and physical challenges. The project included features such as a roundabout, a new bridge over the Blue River, a large stone veneer retaining wall, major utilities, lighting, landscaping, traffic signals, and intersection reconstruction. Due to the recreational character of this main highway in the resort town, maintenance of traffic and public safety and mobility were high priorities.

Even though the project was built during the winter months and had major utility work that included coordinating a waterline revision during construction, the project was completed under budget even with these challenges.
